The free version doesn't have real time scanning and no automatic updates so you will have to run the scanner whenever you suspect you have been infected or on regular basis to keep your computer clean from nasty intruders. It will clean most of the adwares but it will not stop them from getting into the system. For this reason it is best used in conjunction with another tool (Spybot - free again :) which protects the computer before they get into the system .
