Pvt. And Public Sector To Work Together To Fight Cyber Attacks

The government of UK does not want to leave any stone unturned in its endeavor to strengthen cyber security. It plans to setup a new cyber security hub jointly with the private sector very soon. The infrastructure of the hub will allow smooth exchange of information regarding cyber-attacks between private and public sector seamlessly. It will enable both the sectors to combine their expertise and provide comprehensive cyber security to UK. The launching of this hub belongs to the broader Cyber Security Strategy released by the government recently.

PM David Cameron reiterated his government’s commitment to maintain UK’s image as one of the most secure places in the world to do business. It will carry on working in coordination with the police, security services and international partners and certainly with the private sector to achieve this goal.

In the same spirit, Francis Maude, Minister for cyber security, commented that cooperation with the private sector is a pre-requisite for this strategy to be a success. In its wake, private and the public sector will pool in their knowledge and skill for the first time in history to fight cyber-attacks.

However, this hub is not the only move that the government has taken to ensure private and public sector coordination. It is also looking at ways to share the cyber security knowledge of GCHQ (govt.’s listening agency) with commercial security organizations of UK.

The business community too, is appreciative of these efforts. Martin Sutherland, managing director of security specialists and government contractor, BAE Systems Detica showing agreement with the government said that such measures taken by the government clearly emphasize how much private sector is crucial and integral in ensuring protection to UK from cyber-attacks.

However, he pointed out that in order to enlist the support and contribution, the government must highlight how working closely with the government proves advantageous for the private sector.
