We received a late night call from a US company, that one of their servers went offline and based on the initial observations from the data center staff, it needed a power supply replacement. The server was located at a JP Morgan data center in Basingstoke, 40 miles away from Bournemouth. Due to the specific tasks this server was involved with, it had to be fixed as soon as possible and was given highest incident priority. It took us forty minutes to confirm that we have the power supply and provide an ETA of half an hour after midnight. Luckily, There were no major delays on the road, despite that there was a massive highway maintenance work done that night.
Upon arrival, after all security checks, we confirmed that the fault was indeed with the power supply and proceeded to replace it with a new one. Thirty minutes later we turned the server back on and informed the company, so they can run a final check on their side.
Finally about 2 am. the repair was confirmed and we were cleared to leave the facility. Since we managed to react quickly and sort out the problem, no significant service downtime had occurred and our customer was very happy with the result.
