How to troubleshoot computer problems.

Troubleshoot Computer repairs

Troubleshoot lost power on computer

Troubleshoot laltop screen repairs

To find out exactly what is wrong with your computer you need to perform the following steps:

  • Hard Drive Test - the most fragile part in any computer is the hard drive. Usually they last 3 to 5 years depending on the usage. The hard drive is very shock sensitive and its life is highly reduced when shocked. This fact explains why laptops don't last as long as the desktop computers. Because the laptops are portable machines 80% of all faults are due to faulty hard drive which is caused by shock and knocks around the hard drive area. You can use Acronis Drive Monitor when you computer is still functional from within windows or using a bootable disk of Hard Disk Sentinel DOS Edition
  • Ram Test - faulty ram memory will cause random blue screen of death errors. A great tools to test your memory is Memtest86+. Sometimes the issue is caused by corroded or loose connector on the memory slots
  • Charger or power socket test - when a laptop doesn't start the most common fault is with the connector of the charger. The wire inside is torn as a result of the constant movement around this area. When using a non genuine charger these fault are more common and in some cases the charger might damage the motherboard. Try moving the charger bit at the socket end to find out whether it has loose connection. Check it with the battery removed so you can see the whether the power is steady while moving the charger wire.
  • Battery Test - When you battery gets too hot and the laptop shuts down, this indicates faulty battery. This is not a very common issue mainly seen on Sony laptop batteries.
  • Screen Test - If you suspect screen failure , try connecting your computer to another monitor. For laptop you can try any VGA monitor. Most laptops have a combination of function letters to turn on the external monitor. Dim screen indicates faulty backlight or faulty inverter. For LED screens it could be a blown fuse on the motherboard caused by some short on the cable normally caused by some liquid spilled around that area.
  • Virus test - constant popups and lost internet is an indication of a virus infection. Viruses are developed by highly skilled programmers to deceive you into typing your payment details so they can steal money from your bank account. A great tool to test for viruses is MalwareBytes.
