Attempting to eliminate boredom men experience while using public urinals, the British company Captive Media, has decided to install urine-controlled gaming consoles in the urinals in pubs. Calling it the unprecedented hands-free video-gaming device, the company asserts that it would mean profit for the advertisers.
Adweek has estimated that men on an average spend 55 seconds to finish the task in a public urinal, totaling up to 9 months in their lives. It means a billion minutes per year in UK that the advertisers can use to catch male attention and increase sales.
The device is fitted over the ordinary urinal bowl and offers three target options for the users to aim for. The target spots have stickers that read “start”, “left”, and “right”. The unit has a 12-inch LCD screen protected with toughened glass- easy to clean and safe against any associated damage. There is neither a camera installed to detect the stream nor any contact required to play the games, only an infrared device for the purpose.
The products have already been setup in the Exhibit Bar, Balham and are bringing in encouraging results. The brand Drinkware has already joined but it remains to be seen how the other companies see the concept as a lucrative one for their businesses.
